TLC was started by Carolyn Knarr, a clinical social worker in the St. Louis area. Carolyn, who works at a therapeutic preschool for children with severe behavioral and emotional problems, began looking for weighted products to meet her professional needs. With input from local occupational therapists and parents, she began making her own vests and blankets that were comfortable, practical, and appealing.

Carolyn lives with her husband, daughter, and youngest son. One of her sons has A.D.H.D. and sensory processing disorder.
In 2008, Carolyn visited the Micah Project, an outreach for street children and their families in Honduras that provides the nurturing, shelter, and protection that they desperately need. She was amazed by their compassion and success, and came back to St. Louis looking for a way to raise support for this program.

When occupational therapists, educators, and families began requesting her products, she began her business to meet these needs, as well as to support the Micah Project.
